Moving mountains - a solo exhibition by simone verfaille
New exhibition by Simone Verfaille explores landscape and emotion
In Moving through Mountains, Simone Verfaille presents a body of work shaped by memory, emotion and a growing connection with nature.
With her layered abstract paintings and tapestry pieces, she created artworks that explore the interplay between inner and outer landscapes. This layering process, both visual and material, serves as a method of unearthing and building, echoing the natural cycles of the earth. Layer upon layer, surfaces were built up, broken down, and reassembled, mirroring the complex and shifting nature of lived experience.
In her tapestry works, the canvas is ripped, rearranged, and stitched together again, with each seam a mark of rupture and restoration. The act of layering is a conceptual foundation, embodying movement, depth and the quiet tension between fragility and resilience.
The warm, earthy palette, rich in greens, ochres, burnt sienna and deep reds, evokes both landscape and emotion, grounding the works in a visceral, organic energy.
Rooted in abstract expressionism, her practice has evolved into something more organic and grounded. Each piece functions as a vessel for expression, alive with texture and energy yet still embodying the rhythms and stillness of the landscapes that move her.
The exhibition opens on Thursday 5 June at WORLDART and a walkabout with the artist at the gallery will take place on Saturday 21 June at 11am. Everyone is welcome to attend both events.
