It is an honour for Worldart to announce the display of three new paintings by Hannes Meiring in our Cape Town gallery. Meiring, a respected architect, has in recent years impressed collectors with his gutsy and fresh approach to familiar concepts in painting.

Hannes Meiring was born in Potchefstroom in 1934, but grew up in Stellenbosch. He qualified as an architecht at the University of Cape Town and, after two years’ study in Germany, established an architectural practice in Johannesburg and Pretoria where he soon developed an interest in the preservation of buildings and architectural and historical value.

Since moving to Stellenbosch in 2000, Hannes Meiring has designed a new art museum for Mrs Huberte Rupert as well as several wine cellars. He is involved in several heritage committees.

Hannes Meiring has held 11 solo art exhibitions and his work is represented in a number of public collections. He has written or collaborated on eight books and has been awarded the Simon van der Stel Foundation Medal (1988) and the medal of the Suid Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns( 1989).
