HEAT WINTER ARTS FESTIVAL 2026
PAUSE
a group exhibition by WORLDART
6 - 15 August 2026
Carnal Effort by Ayola Goxo | Oil on canvas | 86cm x 76cm.
This winter, Cape Town's city centre comes alive for the HEAT Winter Arts Festival, running from 6–15 August across 15 galleries and museums. Opening on First Thursdays, 6 August, this year's festival theme, Ctrl + Z, invites reflection, revision, and reinvention.
In response, WORLDART presents Pause, a group exhibition bringing together five contemporary artists whose practices revisit, question, and reframe inherited narratives. Through portraiture, symbolism, and critical engagement with digital and social systems, the exhibition explores how contemporary art can challenge dominant narratives while opening space for new understandings of identity, history, and cultural memory.
Featuring works by Lona Ndzimande, Ayola Goxo, Aimee Lindeque, Xolelwa Malinga, and Maitemogelo Mphela, Pause reflects the diverse voices of a new generation of artists engaging thoughtfully with the past to imagine new possibilities for the future.
The exhibition can be viewed daily from 10am till 5pm Monday to Friday, and 10am till 2pm on Saturdays.
Address: 68 Long Street (Cnr Long and Shortmarket Streets)
