MAITEMOGELO MPHELA
MAITEMOGELO DIPHETOGO MPHELA (b. 1994) is a Johannesburg-based contemporary artist working in abstract painting and mixed media. Holding a Bachelor of Social Science degree, her practice is informed by an interest in perception, emotional experience and the ways individuals make meaning from uncertainty and change.
Through layering, geometric forms, text, and tactile materials, Mphela creates works that explore vulnerability, transformation, and the reconstruction of identity. Her paintings investigate how experiences leave traces within the body and mind, accumulating into personal frameworks through which we understand ourselves and others.
Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and she was selected as one of the ten finalists for the WORLDARTI0 Competition in 2025.
