PRINCE MAWULI

Nusenu Prince Mawuli (b. 1987) is a Ghanaian visual artist celebrated for his innovative fusion of portrait painting and African print fabric collage. With formal training in arts, textile design, and technology pursued in Ghana, Nusenu’s has cultivated a deeply expressive style that harmonizes traditional motifs with contemporary technique. After relocating to South Africa in 2012, Nusenu’s began to explore a distinctive artistic voice that reflects cultural identity through mixed media. Drawing inspiration from Ghana’s iconic Kente and vibrant African prints, his work is a bold celebration of Africa’s rich heritage. Each portrait series is thoughtfully composed, combining striking fabrics and painted imagery to convey stories of identity, ancestry, and shared experience. Through the interplay of colour, texture, and symbolism, Nusenu’s canvas becomes a platform for storytelling—an invitation to engage with the deep-rooted beauty of African traditions. He regards art as an essential aspect of culture and life, channelling his passion into pieces that resonate with viewers across borders and generations.
