Rikhotso freely uses symbols and metaphors, in particular the shovel, which symbolizes strength, and the pied crow, which he identifies as a personal totem that functions a guide through this journey. His work reflects on memories, everyday life experiences, history, cultural identity and sociopolitical issues in contemporary South Africa and is mostly inspired by nature, socio economic and political issues.
